WHEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Hi!
My name is Augusto de Mello and I have a diagnosis of Bipolar. Twenty five years ago I had a "lucky scape".
After many months of struggle with depression, I woke up one day and felt I could not keep on living. A phone call from my mom at the right time saved my life. It took me a a while to realise I never wanted to end my life - I wanted to end my suffering, I just did not know it then. That was an eureka moment for me which set me off on a personal mission and my recovery journey powerfully went to the next level.
First of all I made a commitment to myself that whatever happened I would not consider doing that again. ever. Consciously closing that avenue took away a huge burden off my shoulders, I knew I would 'be here' no matter what, then the inevitable question came to me: "And what am I going to do about it?
Inspired by a poem called The Race, I decided that if I felt 1000 times, 1000 times I would stand up and win my race to recovery, but I still did not know what recovery meant to me, until one day I looked at the mirror, gathered all my strength and said out loud; ENOUGH! Survival was just not sufficient for me, not even having a "good life", I wanted a life that felt no less than extraordinary in the way I and no one else defined it; this mission still drives me every day.
Wherever you are, whatever happened, whichever are your expectations there are actions you can do now to make things better, and my invitation is to walk with you, side by side identifying these actions.
